Why turn-based games are secretly the best thing on mobile
Mobile gaming happens in fragments. Two minutes in a queue, ten on the train, a stretch before sleep. Turn-based games are built for exactly that life, because you can stop mid-thought and the game waits for you without punishment.
Playing Emberfall Chronicle on my commute made this obvious. I'd plan one turn, the train would lurch, I'd look up, then come back to it. A twitch game would have killed me. The turn-based one didn't even notice I was gone.
There's also the thumb factor. Precise real-time input on a touchscreen is always a compromise, but tapping a target and confirming a move? That's what touch is made for.
If you've written off strategy and RPGs on phones, try one that leans into turns. It might be the most comfortable fit your phone has ever had.
